Flores is among Indonesia's most remote and intriguing islands, forming part of the volcanic 'Ring of Fire'. Climb the Mount Kelimutu volcano for breathtaking sunrise views across the three stunning multi-coloured lakes that grace the peak, before visiting traditional local villages and plantations. Explore traditional local architecture and monasteries, along with ancient caves where the race of Homo Florensis, or 'Hobbits', are believed to have inhabited. The trip ends with a boat ride to the islands of Komodo, where ancient dragons still roam the Earth.

Day 1: Bali – Moni, Flores
Early start today with your Garuda Indoneisa flight departing Bali at 6am, (transiting Labuan Bajo) and arriving into Ende at 8.55am.
Upon your arrival at Ende Airport, you will be welcomed by your local guide and then transferred to Moni.
Overnight and Dinner at Kelimutu Ecolodge.

Ende – Moni (60 km): 2 hours

 

Day 2: Kelimutu – Ende – Bajawa
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner
An early start today to enjoy the stunning sunrise views from atop the mysterious Mt Kelimutu (1690m). Mt Kelimutu contains three uniquely colored lakes from brilliant aquamarine, to ochre red to chocolate brown. Take a short walk to the best vantage points for these lakes and learn more about their importance to the local ethnic groups; and formation since the volcano’s last eruption in 1886.
Descend the mountain (30mins) to the town of Moni where you can enjoy your breakfast whilst reviewing your morning’s photos.
After breakfast, we continue to the Flores’ capital, Ende, where former President Soekarno was exiled by the Dutch from 1934-1938, stopping at bustling fruit market in Nduria and traditional villages. Lunch is served enroute.
This afternoon you drive to Bajawa, a small, quiet town surrounded by mountains in the middle of Flores. Along the way you’ll visit the colorful market of Boawae and explore the coffee plantations near Kaja. Traditional villages and scenic views fill the driving route with plenty of opportunities to stop for photos. On arrival in Bajawa check into your hotel.
Dinner this evening is at the hotel or local restaurant.
Overnight in Bajawa at Hotel Happy Happy or Silverinn.

Moni – Kelimutu (15km): 30 to 45 minutes each way
Moni – Bajawa (185km): 6 hours

 

Day 3: Bajawa - Ruteng (B/L/D)
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner
This morning drive to Ruteng via Bena, a traditional village situated at the base of a volcano. This village is noted for its unusual architecture of steeped roof, wooden houses typical of Flores, you also visit the village of ancestral monoliths, Wogo, and the picturesque emerald crater lake of Ranamese.
Ruteng is located around 1,100m in the volcanic highlands. Tonight you’ll stay at the Santa Maria Convent; dinner will be served at local restaurant.
Overnight at Santa Maria Convent.

Bajawa - Ruteng (140 km): 5 hours

 

Day 4: Ruteng – Cancar – Labuan Bajo – Boat
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner
In the early morning drive to Labuan Bajo, stopping at local villages for an incredible view of the Cancar spider web rice fields and Lembor irrigation area.
Arriving in Labuan Bajo you board a boat to cruise to the islands of Rinca and Komodo. Lunch is served on the boat. Rinca is famous for its population of Komodo dragons as well as wild pigs, buffalos and birds. You’ll go ashore and take a trek with an island ranger to see these magnificent lizards in their natural environment.
Overnight and Dinner on board local boat.

Ruteng – Labuan Bajo (132 km): 4 hour 30 mins drive

 

Day 5: On Boat – Komodo
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner
Today, the trip will continue to Komodo Island, with lunch included on the boat. Trek Komodo Island with an experienced ranger and witness a stunning view of Loh Liang Bay.
Take a swim or go snorkeling at Red Beach on the island’s east coast, a sloping, shallow reef just off the shore which is home to an abundant variety of sealife. Return to Labuan Bajo.
Transfer from the harbor to the hotel for dinner and overnight at Bintang Flores Overnight Labuan Bajo.

 

Day 6: Labuan Bajo – Bali
Includes breakfast
Morning at leisure.
In the afternoon, your guide will transfer you in a private car to the airport for your flight to Bali.
The Garuda Indonesia flight departs at 1pm or 4.30pm (your choice) arriving into Bali 1 1/2 hours later.

 

Important Note: Accommodation is basic. Most rooms are fan cooled. This trip is designed for people willing to experience some remote area of Indonesia with a sense of adventure and ready to accept basic comfort.
